People of various faiths have used beads for prayer throughout history. The Rosary is a Catholic form of prayer popularized by St. Dominic in the 13th century. A chain or string of beads is often used as the “body” of this prayer to keep track of the five repeating sets of prayers. The soul of the “rosary” is a sequence of meditations based on events in Jesus’ life that are found in the Gospels. The four categories of mysteries are the Joyful Mysteries, the Luminous Mysteries, the Sorrowful Mysteries and the Glorious Mysteries. Each category is then comprised of five individual mysteries, one for each of the five decades on a set of rosary beads. It has been a popular and efficacious form of prayer for centuries and a favorite among many prominent saints and other religious, such as Pope John Paul the Great and Mother Teresa.

Two years ago, I created my first rosary bracelet. Prior to this, I had never completed a craft in my adult life.
